Thoroughly researched and well-written, the book notably spotlights the crucial delaying action Buford orchestrated on the battle’s first day. The useful appendices and walking/driving tour at the end are added pluses to the overall text. “The Devil’s to Pay” is an excellent read on a pivotal time in Civil War history.
